Where Quilts Lead Us: My Quiltmaking Journey
How can a quilt influence an entire career? Dr. Colleen Pokorny, Assistant Professor in Apparel Design at OSU, shares her journey from a childhood inspired by her grandmother's quilt to becoming an award-winning quilter, apparel designer, researcher, and educator. Through personal stories and examples of quilts, garments, and research projects, she will explore the enduring role of quiltmaking in preserving history, building community, inspiring creativity, and adapting to changing technologies.

In 1989, when quilting was on the rise in Benton County, a group of women approached the Benton County Historical Museum and asked if they could meet in the auditorium on a monthly basis to promote the quilting interests in the county.
The Marys River Quilt Guild was formed and monthly meetings have continued in the main auditorium at the museum. The guild has continued to support the quilting community and has actively supported projects such as bed quilts for the Mario Pastega House; quilts for victims of natural disasters and child abuse; quilts for the TOUCH Project in Ukraine and many others. It has also organized Quilts in the Garden and Quilt County, at one time. More importantly, the guild has given quilters a place to share ideas and friendships with those who enjoy the craft of quilting.
PURPOSE
Marys River Quilt Guild is a community of quilting enthusiasts whose purpose is to encourage and promote the art of quilting. Our mission is to bring together individuals who have a shared passion for quilting, and to present various activities and programs that will pique the interest of our members. We welcome everyone to join us, whether as a member or simply as an attendee at our meetings.

We are a community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to promoting and preserving the craft of quilting. Our guild provides a space for quilters of all levels to come together to learn, share, and inspire each other.We offer a wide range of activities and programs for our members, including workshops, lectures, and events. Our goal is to create an environment where every member feels welcome, and where we can all learn and grow together as quilters.
MEET OUR BOARD MEMBERS
Each board member is elected by the members of the Mary's River Quilt Guild and serves a two-year term. Elections are held during the November meeting each year.

Guild President
Karen has been a member of the Guild since 2012, and has served as librarian and been on the Challenge Committee for many years. She has been interested in quilting since she helped make a quilt at summer camp. She enjoys a variety of quilt styles and techniques, as long as they are scrappy.
Linda Standeven
Treasurer
Linda has been quilting since the mid 1980’s and these days loves making baby quilts, wall hangings and table runners. She enjoys browsing books and magazines for new patterns to try, hanging out in quilt shops, and going to quilt shows. Linda loves that the Guild gives her the opportunity to spend time with so many fun and creative quilters!

Jo has helped MRQG withraffle quilt sales & QITG. She has joined Round Robin & Quilting Friends. She enjoys makingutilitarian quilts- especiallywith triangles- and quiltedborders for her cross-stitchprojects.

Service to our Community and Those in Need
At Marys River Quilt Guild, our Service Committee uses donated fabrics in the creation of a variety of quilts to have ready for charitable causes. In the most recent four years the committee has coordinated the making and giving away of between one hundred and two hundred quilts each year.
We donate to many community service organizations and assisted living facilities as well as victims of house fires and recently to victims of wildfires. We also provide quilts to several organizations for raffles and auctions.
